Selling a Car

When selling a car, you must find out the current value of your vehicle. You also need to be prepared to negotiate with different candidates, look for different advertising mediums and be ready with all appropriate documentation so the sale can materialize. It is a good idea to order a vehicle history report to answer potential buyer's questions and doubts.

When you sell the vehicle, you will need to create a bill of sale and transfer your car title. A bill of sale is a certificate that proves the transfer of property (vehicle). The buyer will need this document to register his/her new vehicle. The bill of sale must include: the date of sale, description of the vehicle (year, make and model), vehicle identification number or VIN, name of buyer, amount of sale and the name, address and signature of seller(s). In terms of your title, you will need to apply for title and registration within 30 days of the date of transfer, or within 30 calendar days of the date which a prior lien has been released (whichever date is later). You may do the process online, by mail or in person with your local motor vehicle office.
