Emissions Testing

Motor vehicle emissions are gases resulting from a chemical reaction or process, which come out of cars through exhaust systems. These emissions contaminate the air with toxic and smog pollutants. According to the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), cars, buses, trucks, construction vehicles and boats produce at least half of the hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, and the personal automobile is the single greatest polluter out there.

Even though the state of Arkansas does not require annual vehicle inspections, you are still expected always pay attention to your vehicle emissions. The ADEQ recommends:

  • Carpooling, walking or riding public transportation
  • Avoid driving during rush hour
  • Use conference calls instead of meetings in person
  • Make use of telecommute and compressed week schedules
  • Keep your car well-tuned
